Acting like a Local

Last night I walked along the railroad tracks with some friends to the new brew pub, Gravity,  in Louisville. While it was kind of scenic, it was challenge with the shoes I was wearing. but a fun way to   go. The place is decorated in modern grunge, I guess. Fun. A couple of pool tables and 2 different bier gardens, choosing depends on the sun. We definitely had some yummy beers, then back to  the house for a bbq.
Sasha is certainly acting like a local., she is back to her old wondering ways. Last night she was home by 10:30, though, so not too bad. I had opened the door earlier than the last 2 nights, maybe that is the trick. When she comes home, she very politely sits by the screen door and meows.

Little House in the Big Woods

Last night when I went to bed, I had planned on staying one more day at Mormon State Rec Area, it was beautiful and a lake ready for swimming! But this morning it was grey and storms predicted so I moved on. I took SH2, the scenic bypass, and it was scenic. A beautiful 2 lane highway drive, no traffic, little towns to slow down to see. Rolling hills, I know! I had to keep reminding myself I was in Nebraska. I am parked in the nearly deserted Nebraska National Forest. My fellow campers are families here with ATVs to enjoy the forest roads. (I just saw a blue jay, must be getting further west.)

Driving the van is really pleasant, very comfortable, easy to maneuver. I've been working on the u-turn skills. :-)

Sasha still hides under the sheets when we are moving. or at any strange sounds, or if I moving about the van too much. SO, in reality she hides a lot. But she did discover her favorite plant--

Ugh, everything is super slow, I must be far out! more later.

Protein ??

If you have ever been camping in the midwest you know these little tiny bugs that can infest anything! What a bother! Actually one can tolerate them, except in the wine glass. They are crunchy, get in your teeth, and they really like wine. I prefer a different source of protein.   Can you see those little buggers???
Look closely  :-)

best time of the day

I love this time of the day, no matter the time of the year. It's the angle of the sun, the fresh air breeze, the coolness coming ahead, people getting more active. Well, I guess that last part is a summer thing.
I am in Grand Island NE, Mormon Island State Rec Area. It is really pretty, close enough to the interstate that I can still hear it, but there is something about it. Homey. I  hope to stay another night, I will RACE to the office in the morning, hoping to reserve my spot. (see photo) There is a beach would could be worth a try.

No coffee, no toilet paper

Time to leave town! Every time I leave my condo to get in the van, I take a bag or two of stuff. Even though I feel I have moved out of the condo, I know there are a few things left I want in the van. Where will I put them?!
I was washing right down to the last minute, I just put a wet area rug out to dry. WIll it happen over night in Iowa??

I have those bags to find spaces for, and I also now have entertainment for Sasha-   but I have a little bit of wine to sip while I make dinner and mood music thanks to Pandora. Also there is a great road out there waiting for a bike ride before I get back on the road to Omaha. Sweet night.

Singing in the Rain

I just came back from a nice peaceful walk along the pier. It was raining. Just that perfect summer rain; warm, no wind, no lightning, no thunder, just perfect. I met a mother and her daughter also out to enjoy the time. Daddy used to say that this is the best time for fishing, and he would have hit the jackpot - big fish were jumping in the Grand River. This afternoon the fishermen were complaining that nobody had caught anything-Where were they now?

Update- :-) It is morning, I could for a walk, still no thunder and mild temp, but it is really coming down. I think I will stay in and do a little housework (HAHA) and then hit the road for Oak Park.
The season is beginning, when I arrived on Tuesday there were 4 rvs, now there are 12. Big honkers that will ruin the view and crowd the road through. The camp host said it is quite the skill to park one of those long ones once this place starts filling up. I would like to see it. (Wish I had bought some cinnamon swirl bread yesterday)

Instant Fire Pit

I did NOT bike to town to buy the grill - haha- because who knows what other wonderful treasures I might have found. It didn't take me long to get the van ready for a drive, so it was all good. Got back to camp in no time and made the grill!

Step one                                                Step two                                    Step three-oops, food is all gone

Grand Haven

What to do, what to do. Check out my camp site.
The sun is beginning to set, people are walking the pier, jogging, strolling with their dogs, and I am sitting in my lounge chair. :-)  I don't think Sasha is going to venture out today, she was traumatized at the dealer, all these strange men walking and talking while she huddled in her cage. Lots of families playing here enjoying the evening, it is beautiful.
There are no fire pits here so first on my list tomorrow is to check out my theory of biking into town. There is a Wal Mart not far so I am going to look for a smokey joe type grill. I have my propane camping stove, but didn't pack the propane yet--haha

Registered!

I learned how to drive on a VW bus in the mid 60's.    My mother loved to ride with me saying she felt high 'in the saddle' and people paid attention to me, a 'little' girl driving a bus. I have now moved up to a Class B motor home and am definitely riding  high in the saddle. I am not so little anymore, but still love the fact that the van gets noticed. I went to get license plates and the clerk in revenue was quite taken..."What did you buy?!?!" a motorhome "Wow, you got it in the lot?" yep! She followed me out and we had quite the conversation. It was so fun! Then I went back to actually get the plates and the guy behind that counter followed me out, too! Here is my newly registered van. :-)
